Assistant Controller
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead and continuously improve the monthly close process across assigned hotels and corporate entities.
- Review and approve journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain standardized month-end close calendars, checklists, and reporting deadlines.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, management reporting packages, and variance analyses.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger through ongoing review and reconciliation activities.
- Oversee daily revenue reporting (DRR) and resolve mapping issues between Opera PMS, M3, Toast, payroll systems, and other financial applications.
- Cook up month-end AP accruals and ensure expenses are recorded in the proper accounting period.
- Support payroll accounting, reconciliations, labor reporting, and sales/use tax accounting.
- Partner with Operations and Sales to strengthen AR processes, monitor aging, and minimize bad debt exposure.
Process Improvement & Internal Controls
- Develop and implement standardized accounting procedures, close schedules, reconciliations, and reporting templates across the portfolio.
- Strengthen internal controls while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce financial risk.
- Support annual audits and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Develop SOPs and training documentation for accounting processes.
Business Partnership
- Partner with General Managers, Directors of Finance, and operational leaders to improve financial accountability.
- Support annual budgets, monthly forecasts, cash flow planning, and financial analysis.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to hotel accounting teams and offshore accounting resources.
Financial Systems & Technology
- Maintain the integrity of financial systems including M3, Opera PMS, Toast, UKG, Yardi, and related applications.
- Investigate and resolve system mapping and interface issues affecting financial reporting.
- Support implementation of new accounting systems, reporting tools, and process improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 4–6+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within hospitality or multi-unit operations.
- Strong understanding of hotel accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, and general ledger accounting.
- Experience with accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, and indirect tax compliance.
- Experience developing accounting processes, internal controls, and standardized operating procedures.
- Proficiency with M3 required; experience with Opera PMS, Toast, UKG, Yardi, and advanced Microsoft Excel strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growth-oriented hospitality environment.
