About the role
The Assistant Controller oversees the Accounts Payable function and supports financial operations within a fast-paced construction environment.Responsibilities
- Oversee daily Accounts Payable operations, including invoice processing, payment approvals, vendor management, and disbursements.
- Supervise AP staff and ensure timely and accurate processing of subcontractor and vendor invoices.
- Ensure accurate job cost tracking and support project managers with financial reporting and budget analysis.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including accruals and account reconciliations.
- Support preparation of financial statements and management reporting packages.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures. Enforce and support SOX compliance.
- Collaborate with project management and operations teams to resolve billing, vendor, and cost-related issues.
- Afford support for implementation and optimization of accounting systems and workflows.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements related to AP and construction accounting.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to streamline accounting operations and reporting accuracy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of construction accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of Accounts Payable, job costing, retainage, progress billing, and subcontractor management.
- Experience with construction ERP/accounting systems such as Viewpoint, Sage 300/Timline, Foundation, CMiC, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, SOX compliance and internal controls.
- Advanced Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with AIA billing and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Experience leading AP automation or process improvement initiatives.
