Assistant Construction Superintendent
About the role
The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent or Senior Superintendent in one or more operational areas of a construction project. This position may involve coordinating and scheduling multiple construction crews, determining construction requirements, planning procedures, and ensuring subcontractor work meets required specifications. The role includes participating in inspections of work and equipment to verify safety and compliance with project specifications. Travel may be required up to 100% of the time.
Responsibilities
- Assist Superintendents with monitoring project schedule and budget, and work with superintendents to maintain and update them.
- Coordinate with subcontractors for recovery plans where necessary; meet regularly with staff and subcontractors to discuss progress, obstacles, and challenges, and assist in removing barriers to completing work.
- Assist in coordinating daily operational objectives, timelines, and goals.
- Coordinate inspections and participate in examining work progress, equipment, and construction sites to verify safety and ensure specifications are met.
- Read construction documents to determine requirements or plan procedures.
- Record and maintain information, producing reports such as personnel, production, project logs, status, and other operational data.
- Assist in making decisions regarding start-up/shut-down issues on assigned projects and instruct crew members accordingly.
- Conduct periodic job site safety inspections and audits.
- Ensure all actions on the job site comply with safety standards and that assigned projects are built to the highest quality according to plans and specifications.
- Represent the company in job site progress meetings or other meetings as requested.
- Act as job site superintendent in the absence of the normal job site superintendent.
- Create and maintain good working relationships with customers and suppliers to ensure smooth operations.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with all parties regarding deliveries, job progress, etc.
- Assist in coordination and management of all workforce needed to complete assigned projects.
- Clearly communicate goals and expectations to crew members, including work hours, amount of work, schedule, etc.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- 2-5 years of experience in construction or a college construction graduate.
- General knowledge of scheduling, cost control, and safety procedures.
- General computer skills (MS Office).
- Valid Driver’s License.
