Assistant Construction Estimator

About the role

Essex Homes is a leading residential semi-custom home builder based in western New York. We specialize in delivering high-quality, thoughtfully designed homes with an emphasis on craftsmanship, customer service, and efficiency. We are looking for an entry-level Estimator to join our dedicated team. The Estimator will play a key role in the pre-construction process, preparing accurate cost estimates for residential semi-custom homes. This is an opportunity for someone to learn our business, our processes, and our software from our small group of experienced estimators.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed cost estimates for semi-custom residential home projects based on architectural plans, specifications, and design options.
• Collaborate with the design and sales team to ensure accurate pricing and timely delivery of proposals.
• Review and analyze subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.
• Maintain and update cost databases within Buildertrend to reflect current market pricing and vendor rates.
• Identify and evaluate cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or design integrity.
• Provide support for budgeting, change order pricing, and contract negotiations.
• Continue to build out the Buildertrend software package to improve internal efficiencies.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Willingness to learn construction software applications.
• Some knowledge of residential construction materials and methods would be helpful.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Solid communication and listening skills.
• The ability to work independently and professionally in a small office environment.
• Possess the desire and ability to learn quickly and ask questions.
• Be passionate about producing timely, accurate, and quality estimates.

Pay

Competitive salary range of $45,000 to $60,000 per year.
