Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney

About the role

Gain the trial experience you have always wanted—you will be assigned cases in all levels of court for a variety of misdemeanor and felony cases. Our mentorship program pairs new attorneys with experienced trial attorneys and provides the resources you need to succeed.

Duties

• Serve as “Duty Attorney” and respond to calls and questions from citizens, police officers and defense attorneys on a rotating basis.
• Attend relevant trainings.
• Ride-along with law enforcement.
• Engage in service to connect with the community we serve.

Preferences

• Gain 2 years of related experience.
• Experience as a criminal prosecutor or criminal defense is preferred, but not required.
• Works cooperatively with the police departments in our jurisdiction.
• Can manage a large caseload.
• Has a zealous work ethic and proven ability to work with a team.
• Strong interest in advocating for the community’s best interest in a variety of cases.

Special Requirements

• Must be a member of the Virginia State Bar in good standing.

Pay

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $100,000.00
