Assistant Coach - Women's Lightweight Crew

About the Role

Under the supervision of the Head Coach, this position uses athletics as a tool to educate college students. By leveraging inter-collegiate competition and related activities, the role serves as a teacher and mentor to build student character, prepare students for a constructive and effective life, and teach valuable life lessons. This position assists in planning, directing, and coaching the women’s inter-collegiate lightweight rowing program, playing a key leadership role and filling in for the Head Coach when absent.

Responsibilities

• Athlete Team Management: Assists in developing, coordinating, and planning practices and competitions to enhance student-athlete skills. Analyzes video for opponent scouting and team development. Executes recruitment and retention strategies aligned with values of excellence and inclusion. Supports academic integration with the team.
• Operational Complexity: Assists in developing team strategy, logistics, and operational direction. Ensures compliance with University, Ivy League, and NCAA rules. Coordinates with less-experienced coaches and participates in professional development.
• Communication & Influence: Helps maintain and build viewership and positive media interest for the program.
• People Management: Mentors seasonal assistant coaches.
• Instructs rowing technique and communicates goals with student-athletes.
• Coaches and manages multiple boat classes (sweep and sculling).
• Provides team, boat, and individual feedback.
• Drives launches, trucks, and boat trailers; assists with competition setup and logistics.
• Develops social media strategy and coordinates communications.
• Assists with training facility operations, team travel, and alumnae functions.
• Evaluates prospective student-athletes and plans official visits.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of crew coaching and/or rowing experience at the collegiate, national, and/or Olympic level.
• Valid driver's license, CPR, and First Aid certification.
• Evening and weekend work, frequent travel, and ability to work in extreme environmental conditions.

Qualifications

• Coaching experience with lightweights preferred.
• Substantial mastery of sport-specific knowledge and relevant issues.
• Understanding of Harvard and Ivy League athletics philosophy, principles, and policies.
• Moderate management and leadership knowledge.
• Familiarity with Peach System preferred.

Pay

$50,000–$78,000/annual
