Assistant Coach, Varsity Golf

About the Role
Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Campus Athletics is seeking an Assistant Coach to support our Golf program. This position is responsible for assisting with the coordination of the Kamehameha Athletic Sports program, including coaching, instructing students, and performing duties necessary to develop players and teams in alignment with Kamehameha's philosophy of athletics.
This position will be paid a stipend of $3,746.00 at the end of the Spring sports season.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of golf, including rules, skills, tactics, and techniques.
- Translate sports knowledge to athletes and develop/evaluate their performance and progress.
- Teach individual and team skills to athletes, focusing on observable outcomes beyond winning/losing.
- Assist athletes in reaching their full potential with patience and individualized attention.
- Organize and supervise safe, efficient practices and games, utilizing coaching staff effectively.
- Prepare the team for competitions while conducting yourself ethically and professionally as a positive role model.
- Motivate and inspire players with a positive attitude and encouraging conduct.
- Develop a team concept within a values-driven framework, promoting sportsmanship and respect for rules and officials.
- Provide an enjoyable environment and experience for athletes.
- Handle administrative duties, including resolving disciplinary issues, ensuring medical/academic eligibility, completing records, and managing equipment/uniforms.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, faculty, administrators, and the community, including timely reporting to school/media.
- Promote the program in local and state communities.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 1 year of coaching experience.
- National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Fundamentals of Coaching Certification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school or collegiate athletic participation.
- High school or collegiate coaching experience.
- Sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values.
Physical Requirements
- Physical activity such as walking, standing, running, bending, crouching, reaching, lifting, and carrying.
Working Conditions
- Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require travel to various locations, including neighbor islands.
- Typically conducted Monday through Friday, but evening and weekend hours are often required.
Pay
This position offers a stipend of $3,746.00 at the end of the Spring sports season.
