Assistant Coach - Girls Soccer (Hawthorne HS)(REPOST)

About the role

Under the direction of the Principal or their designee, the Assistant Coach is responsible for coaching and assisting a Varsity team, supporting development of lower level teams, and performing related duties as required.

Responsibilities

• Support the Head Coach in development of multiple levels
• Supervise players
• Supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship
• Prepare field/courts on Game Day and support logistics as directed by the Head Coach
• Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student-athletes
• Assess players’ skills
• Support game strategy as determined by the Head Coach
• Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property
• Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation at all times
• Take all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, and facilities, including protecting students from hazing/bullying
• Maintain and secure all equipment and uniforms
• Oversee the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all athletic equipment
• Represent the Centinela Valley Union High School District and program in a professional manner
• Maintain nondiscriminatory practices in all activities
• Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance
• Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator

Requirements

• Experience playing or coaching the sport in which applying for
• Ability to explain, demonstrate, and analyze fundamental skills and strategies
• Ability to meet all CIF Coaching requirements and certifications
• Ability to communicate with and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders
• Knowledge of CIF Rules and Regulations pertaining to the sport applying for

Qualifications

• At least two years of experience as a varsity coach at the high school, college, or professional level in the sport applying for
• Experience as a college or professional athlete
• Demonstrated success with the development of a team with high academic achievement

Skills

• Comprehensive knowledge of the game
• Extensive knowledge of current coaching techniques and procedures
• Knowledge of NFHS and CIF rules and regulations
• Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes
• Ability to communicate in spoken and written word
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to relate to students and to teach them on and off the field
• Willingness to accept a high level of accountability

Certificates

• NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching or Sport Specific
• NFHS Concussion in Sports (every 2 years)
• NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest (every 2 years)
• NFHS Heat Illness Prevention (every 2 years)
• Valid CPR/First-Aid card

Compensation

Coaching stipend per Collective Bargaining Agreement for current employees; coaching stipend of $4,476 per season for walk-on coaches.
