About the role

The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in supervising and preparing players in the program. Responsibilities include promoting individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions
  • Prepare field/courts on Game Day and support logistics as directed by the Head Coach
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student-athletes
  • Assess players' skills
  • Support game strategy as determined by the Head Coach
  • Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property
  • Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation at all times (coaches and athletes)
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, and facilities, including protecting students from hazing/bullying
  • Maintain and secure all equipment and uniforms
  • Oversee the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all athletic equipment
  • Represent the Centinela Valley Union High School District and program in a professional manner
  • Maintain nondiscriminatory practices in all activities
  • Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance

Requirements

  • Experience playing or coaching the sport in which applying for
  • Ability to explain, demonstrate, and analyze fundamental skills and strategies
  • Ability to meet all CIF Coaching requirements and certifications
  • Ability to communicate with and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders
  • Knowledge of CIF Rules and Regulations pertaining to the sport applying

Qualifications

  • At least two years of experience as a varsity coach at the high school, college, or professional level in the sport applying for
  • Experience as a college or professional athlete
  • Demonstrated success with the development of a team with high academic achievement

Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the game is paramount
  • Extensive knowledge of current coaching techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of NFHS and CIF rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to communicate in spoken and written word
  • The ability to relate to students and to teach them on and off the field
  • The ability to be willing to accept a high level of accountability
  • A professionally calm and motivationally intense personality

Coaching stipend per Collective Bargaining Agreement for current employees

Coaching stipend of $4,476 per season for walk-on coaches
