Assistant Coach, Fencing- Saber
About the role
Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking a part-time assistant Fencing coach specializing in saber. The position is located in Providence, Rhode Island, and is a member of the Ivy League. The intercollegiate athletics program includes 38 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes participating in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1).
Responsibilities
- Specialize in saber.
- Assist in organizing, preparing, and conducting team practices, training, and competitions.
- Aid in identifying and recruiting prospective student-athletes for the intercollegiate Women's fencing program, adhering to NCAA rules, regulations, guidelines, and standards.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to student athletes.
- Offer assistance in the coordination and administration of the program as needed.
- Affirm the safety of the training and competitive environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of coaching experience on the club or intercollegiate level, with a specialty in coaching saber required.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in saber.
- Ability to recruit within NCAA and Ivy League rules.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and computer skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and relate well to students.
- Strong sport-specific technical, tactical, and strategic knowledge.
- Basic proficiency in Excel, Word, internet, and email capabilities.
- Social media experience, helpful.
- Familiarity with ARMS and Teamworks, or similar, preferred.
- Prior experience with video editing software, helpful.
- Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the game, and ability to coach and motivate.
