Assistant Coach for the Delano Competition Gymnastics Team (MAGA), reporting to the Tiger Youth Gymnastics Program Specialist and the Community Education Youth Recreation and Sports Coordinator.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Coach with practice plans, training, spotting, and instructing gymnasts at practices and meets.
- Coach gymnasts on floor, beam, vault, and bars; supervise participants and help with routines.
- Attend all summer/school-year MAGA practices and weekend meets, including state meets.
- Help develop gymnasts to their full potential.
- Follow program curriculum, goals, and guidelines.
- Ensure all participants follow the Delano School District guidelines and code of conduct.
- Participate in coach training sessions.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Evidence of successful coaching experience in gymnastics, ability to teach fundamental gymnastics skills, and knowledge of spotting skills, or a desire to learn.
- Experience competing as a gymnast is preferred.
- Ability to collaborate with others on the gymnastics coaching staff to meet the long-term needs of the gymnastics program.
- Willingness to continue education to stay up to date on best practices and rules to aid in the evolution of the program.
- Positive, enthusiastic, respectful attitude.
- Ability to relate well to children, teens, and parents.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Current CPR/AED, First Aid, and concussion training certifications or willingness to obtain promptly after being hired.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to provide own transportation to all practices and competitions.
- Able to lift 75 pounds and move equipment needed for the program.
- Ability to demonstrate and/or communicate complex skills/drills to athletes.
