About the role

The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in supervising and preparing players in the program. Responsibilities include promoting individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship. The Assistant Coach also prepares fields/courts on Game Day, supports logistics, assesses player skills, applies game strategy, enforces discipline, encourages sportsmanship, and maintains equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions
  • Prepare fields/courts on Game Day
  • Support logistics as directed by the Head Coach
  • Assess players' skills
  • Apply and enforce game strategy
  • Enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and trips off school property
  • Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation
  • Take necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, and facilities
  • Maintain and secure all equipment and uniforms
  • Oversee cleaning, repairing, and storing athletic equipment
  • Represent the Centinela Valley Union High School District and program in a professional manner
  • Maintain nondiscriminatory practices in all activities

Requirements

  • Experience playing or coaching the sport in which applying for
  • Ability to explain, demonstrate, and analyze fundamental skills and strategies
  • Ability to meet all CIF Coaching requirements and certifications
  • Ability to communicate with and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders
  • Knowledge of CIF Rules and Regulations pertaining to the sport applying

Qualifications

  • At least two years of experience as a varsity coach at the high school, college, or professional level in the sport applying for
  • Experience as a college or professional athlete
  • Demonstrated success with the development of a team with high academic achievement

Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the game
  • Extensive knowledge of current coaching techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of NFHS and CIF rules and regulations
  • Ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes

Coaching stipend per Collective Bargaining Agreement for current employees

Coaching stipend of $4,476 per season for walk-on coaches
