About the role
The Assistant Chief Engineer assists in the management, planning, and execution of the daily activities associated with the Maintenance Department and maintains guestrooms, public space, exteriors, restaurants, bars, and back of house areas.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe, positive, and secure environment for all guests and team members.
- Develop skill sets to improve daily operations and growth opportunities for all peers and team members.
- Act as Safety Director and implement and/or participate in all Fire, Life, and Safety related training and programs.
- Represent the property in developing and maintaining new business relationships with key vendors and peers.
- Manage relationships with other THG and related properties and sales associates through the efficient use of property related data management systems.
- Aid Chief Engineer with interviews, training, supervising, counseling, disciplining, and evaluating maintenance staff team members.
- Maintain guestrooms, public space, and back of the house areas in good repair by performing various tasks related to a variety of trades.
- Assist Chief Engineer with schedules and direct staff in their work assignments.
- Maintain sanitation and safety standards for guests and team members.
- Ensure tools and equipment are inventoried and maintained in working order.
- Maintain visual appeal of public areas.
- Provide guidance for improvement and implement necessary adjustments.
- Communicate with other departments and maintenance staff via communication devices.
- Negotiate bids and maintenance contracts from contractors and/or construction supervisors.
- Oversight of work orders to ensure timely completion of repairs and maintenance programs.
- Maintain strict control over keys and security aspects of the facility.
- Interact with guests to obtain feedback and resolve complaints.
- Maintain Fire, Life, and Safety compliance with policies and procedures.
- Perform periodic duties required by the Fire Department, including testing of smoke detectors, elevators, fire alarms, and conducting monthly fire drills.
- Inspect guestrooms, public space, and back of house areas for repairs, replacements, and maintenance.
- Establish and execute the hotel's preventive maintenance program.
- Report major repairs and items needing further action to the General Manager.
- Keep supervisor informed of problems or matters of significance.
- Perform periodic duties as assigned by management, such as cleaning and washing chilled water and steam coils, punching tubes, and cleaning cooling towers.
- Receive deliveries and add chemicals to water and sewage systems.
- Participate in Manager on Duty program.
- Perform in emergency capacities as needed.
Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of skilled trade activities in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and mechanical work and painting.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for operation and repair of hotel equipment.
- Skill in the use of a variety of skilled trade tools (hand and electric).
- Basic English language communication and mathematical skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of facility management trades and operations with basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical systems.
- Strong mathematical abilities to develop budgets, track inventory, and manage financial processes.
- Ability to communicate effectively with guests and team members, handle stress, and provide total guest satisfaction.
- Coordination skills to determine time, place, and sequence of operations.
- Ability to analyze information and make effective judgments.
Skills
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and mechanical work.
