Job Purpose

The Chief Engineer is responsible for maintaining the overall operation of the maintenance department and the appearance and working order of the hotel. They also oversee the maintenance staff, ensuring compliance with procedures, policies, and expectations. They manage the budget and control departmental expenses, prepare the annual departmental operating budget and capital plans, and ensure compliance with all company, state, local, and federal policies and guidelines.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Wyndham, or Hyatt processes and standards
  • At least 2 years as a Chief Engineer, Maintenance Manager, or related role in a hotel
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace
  • Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process
  • Must possess basic computational ability
  • Must possess basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of computer accounting programs, math skills as well as budgetary analysis capabilities required
  • Thorough knowledge of all types of mechanical equipment such as chillers, boilers, water softeners, and refrigeration equipment
  • Thorough knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems, maintenance of records of power, water, and fuel consumption
  • Experience in office procedures, ordering materials, securing bids, and of city codes and other applicable laws, building construction, blueprint reading, etc.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing equal employment opportunity and civil rights, occupational safety and health, wage and hour issues, and labor relations, including, but not limited to the following statutes and their comparable state and local laws (where applicable): Title VII, Equal Pay Act, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, FLSA, ADA, OSHA, FMLA, NLRA
