About the role

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Senior Development Engineer in the Power global practice based in the Kansas City, MO office.

Responsibilities

  • Leads project development efforts encompassing all phases of project development (from initial concept to implementation of execution plan).
  • Manages and coordinates a multi-disciplined support team, including management and coordination of team members across multiple Global Practices and office locations to complete required tasks on schedule and on budget.
  • Heavy interface with customers and clients across all levels and facets of an organization (internal and external) to identify, understand and cultivate project drivers and goals and develop necessary approaches and solutions.
  • Sets and maintains project schedules and manages project team to complete required tasks by established due dates to support overall development activities.
  • Owns and is responsible for timely completion of all project development activities assigned by the Business Unit Managers and Pre-Construction Manager.
  • Leading engineering for projects in the pipeline.
  • Maintains current knowledge of conventional and emerging technologies including pricing, technical and implementation considerations, and prevailing commercial information (delivery, major terms, etc.).
  • Supports business development efforts to identify and define opportunities and pursue and capture new projects.
  • Participates in industry conferences and publications to further expand Burns & McDonnell’s presence in the energy market, including the development of white papers and presentations at conferences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • 7 years of relevant experience required. A Master’s degree can be substituted for one year of experience.
  • Previous consulting engineering experience strongly preferred.
  • Project development, project management, project implementation experience a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies is a must.
  • Experience with estimating or designing power generation systems is preferred.
  • The ability to effectively multi-task and manage numerous projects/tasks simultaneously, frequently within an aggressive and compressed schedule.
  • The ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial, as well as the ability to maintain the project schedule and achieve target due dates.
