Assistant Chief Engineer

About the role

The Phelps Residence Inn is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer to support the Engineering department. This position works closely with the Chief Engineer to ensure the hotel remains safe, well-maintained, and welcoming for guests and associates.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Chief Engineer in the daily operation of the Engineering department.
• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on guest rooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, and building systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general maintenance issues.
• Respond promptly to guest service requests while providing exceptional hospitality.
• Aid in scheduling, training, coaching, and developing Engineering associates.
• Coordinate and oversee outside contractors and vendors performing maintenance or repairs.
• Maintain accurate work orders, preventative maintenance records, and equipment documentation.
• Monitor inventory and assist with ordering supplies and parts.
• Support capital improvement projects and hotel renovations as assigned.
• Participate in the Manager on Duty rotation as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of building maintenance or engineering experience, preferably in a hotel or commercial property.
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building maintenance.
• Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals, and equipment specifications is preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication, organization, and time management abilities.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in mechanical spaces.

Pay

$20.00 - $24.00 per hour. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications, and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.

Schedule

This position requires flexibility to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed.
