Assistant Cheerleading Coach

About the role

The Assistant Cheerleading Coach will be reporting to the head coach, in conjunction with the athletic director, for the 2026-27 school year.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out the aims and objectives of the sport program as outlined by the head coach.
  • Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success.
  • Help athletes appreciate the values of discipline and sportsmanship and increase their self-esteem.
  • Absorb and abide by existing state and league regulations.
  • Schedule contests and practices, ensuring proper safeguards for equipment sites.
  • Prepare for and adhere to scheduled sport events and practices, respecting facility times.
  • Maintain and protect assigned equipment sites.
  • Recommend budgetary items for the next year in the area of the program.
  • Explain team training rules, "Code of Conduct," and other relevant policies to athletes.
  • Ensure the health and welfare of students in the sport, providing appropriate attention to injuries, illnesses, or incapacitation.
  • Attend all staff meetings and carry out scouting assignments as outlined by the head coach.
  • Teach athletes to respect equipment and school property, its care, and use.
  • Maintain necessary paperwork such as attendance records, inventory of uniforms and equipment, and parent permission forms.

Requirements

  • Valid Connecticut coaching certification or temporary emergency coaching permit.
  • Updated first aid/CPR training approved by Connecticut State Department of Education.
  • Knowledge and background in cheerleading.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge and implementation of policies and procedures in the student-athlete handbook.
  • Responsible for the general health and welfare of students in the sport.
  • Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all student and parent requests or grievances through proper channels.
  • Does not criticize, admonish, or argue with the head coach or any staff member in the presence of players or parents.
  • Assists in maintaining cleanliness and monitoring athletes in all athletic work areas.
