About the role

Brenau University seeks a qualified individual to serve as a Head Coach for a varsity athletic program. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team, recruiting athletes, and adhering to university policies.

Responsibilities

  • Recruitment and retention of athletes consistent with university, AAC, and NAIA guidelines
  • Coaching of team, including attendance at all practice sessions and team-related functions
  • Evaluating and recruiting of potential student-athletes, including on-campus hosting and evaluations
  • Assisting athletes with details related to performance in games/competitions
  • Providing articulation, advocacy, and problem-resolution for student-athletes
  • Adhering to university policies and procedures
  • Assuming additional department responsibilities as assigned by the head coach

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year institution
  • Successful coaching experience at the college or high-school level
  • A clear understanding of and commitment to the NAIA philosophy and the role of athletics within the university’s mission
  • Appropriate coaching licenses and necessary certifications for the designated sport
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate and develop athletes
  • Able to communicate with other coaches, players, parents, and organization members

Salary-Exempt (paid bi-weekly)

Schedule

Half-time (20 hours per week), with hours that may be extended to meet the needs of the department. Nights/weekends as needed. Appointment Length: 10 months, continuous (dates).

Environmental and Working Conditions/Physical Demands and Aptitudes

Long periods of physical exertion. Work is performed inside and outside in all weather conditions. Prolonged periods of standing are required. Must have the ability to travel short distances. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

This is an on-site position based at the Historic Gainesville Campus located in Gainesville, Georgia. Remote Work Available: No

Travel Requirements

Occasional travel required. Occasional overnight stays. Ability to travel locally, statewide, or regionally as needed for team events, recruiting, etc., which requires frequent driving.

Special Requirements

  • Background Checks: All new hires must undergo a criminal background check. To maintain employment, individuals must have and maintain a favorable criminal history. The university may also conduct random background checks. Additional checks may be performed for certain roles.
  • Credit Checks: required for positions that handle university funds or credit cards or as otherwise required.
  • Motor Vehicle and Driving Checks: employees who operate a university vehicle or drive on university business must have a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) run as part of the new hire process or as the requirement to drive is added to job responsibilities.
  • Drug Screening: pre-employment/post-offer drug screens and random drug screens are performed for certain sensitive positions. Random drug screens are also performed on those who travel regularly, or those who operate a university vehicle. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening.

Licensure Requirements

All positions will be filled pending budgetary review. Proof of any professional degree, license, or certification (collectively, “Credentials”) required to competently perform the work for which the employee is hired must have been submitted at the time of application for the position. Discovery during the course of employee’s employment that applicable Credentials have lapsed, been terminated, were misrepresented, or were falsified may result in immediate termination of employee’s employment.

Disclosure of Subsequent Legal Action

It will be evaluated considering continued employment with the immediate supervisor.

Discovery During Employment

As a condition of employment, employees must report any arrest (within five days of its occurrence) to the Office of Human Resources, including traffic violations for those listed on our auto insurance policy. Disclosure of subsequent legal action (conviction, dismissal of charges, etc.) must also be reported to the Office of Human Resources.
