About the role
The Assistant Buyer I is a learning role designed to build a foundation of skills for future careers in merchandising. This role offers structured training and one-on-one apprenticeships with experienced Buyers.
Responsibilities
- Support activities for the buying team, including purchase order management and processing markdowns.
- Provide basic analysis of key business data, such as retail math, regional merchandise reports, Open-To-Buy, stock analysis, and ad hoc analysis.
- Learn negotiation techniques and build relationships with vendors through in-person meetings and follow-up on shipments.
- Utilize merchandising systems and warehouse processes to provide operational support, coordinate deliveries, and optimize warehouse processing capacity and efficiency.
- Develop product knowledge through in-person shopping and communicate new resources to the Buyer.
- Support Buyers in preparing for key business meetings, including formatting reports.
