About the Role

The Assistant Branch Manager is responsible for coaching, developing, and leading branch employees to achieve individual, branch, and organizational growth goals while delivering exceptional member service and maintaining operational excellence. This position works closely with the Branch Vice President to create, implement, and maintain branch strategies aligned with VyStar’s objectives in a fast-paced environment.

The Assistant Branch Manager develops tactical plans, establishes branch objectives, and documents them in the annual business plan. They must actively participate in the VyStar leadership team, promote and support management decisions, and build strong member and community relationships through volunteer and leadership opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Branch Vice President (BVP) to ensure day-to-day branch operations deliver exceptional service experiences and meet or exceed organizational strategic and profitability goals.
  • Train, encourage, and coach employees to embrace VyStar’s Standards of Excellence, Behaviors of Excellence, Being Unbelievable, and the Great 8 Member Service Commitments to establish and grow strong member relationships.
  • Model VyStar Excellence behaviors in all job duties.
  • Develop staff for succession planning within the branch network and other lines of business.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Training to ensure recruiting and training programs are appropriate, timely, and positive for employees.
  • Assist the BVP in partnering with internal departments that rely on referrals for success.
  • Establish and validate branch performance objectives consistent with VyStar Excellence and branch scorecards.
  • Provide ongoing coaching for direct reports, including side-by-side evaluations, Member Assist Call assessments, monthly performance reviews, and career progression discussions.
  • Conduct daily team huddles and weekly sales meetings with the BVP, including training on products, services, and skill practice to increase comfort with member recommendations.
  • Prepare and administer performance appraisals for direct reports.
  • Analyze data with the BVP to determine and implement staffing changes as needed.
  • Support and participate in all Credit Union initiatives and campaigns.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures; perform audits; and adhere to risk management guidelines in a highly regulated environment.
  • Collaborate with Branch Operations Analysts to ensure compliance at applicable locations.
  • Maintain high integrity, trustworthiness, and professionalism.
  • Work from home during branch closures, such as disaster recovery events.
  • Lead community service initiatives to support the VyStar brand.
  • Create and maintain an inclusive, professional environment where diversity is valued and all team members are respected.
  • Support high school branches and collegiate employees, including mentoring, training, and ensuring compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Resolve member concerns independently and escalate complex issues as appropriate.
  • Provide financial counseling to members and employees, making appropriate recommendations.
  • Proactively identify, assess, manage, and report risks within your domain of work to support a healthy risk culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (required).
  • Associate’s degree (preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience in customer service, sales, community service, military service, or leadership (required).
  • 2+ years of experience in a lead role within a financial institution (preferred).
