About the role
The Assistant Branch Manager (ABM) is a key member of the branch team, supporting the Branch Manager in overall branch management. The ABM helps maximize revenue, sales, and customer satisfaction while minimizing operational losses and customer attrition. This role supports sales and service activities, promotional campaigns, and product initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Branch Manager in leading the branch to achieve sales goals, including outbound calling, sales meetings, and coaching.
- Supervises designated staff in daily tasks, influencing personnel decisions such as employment, performance ratings, promotions, salary, transfers, and termination.
- Serves customers efficiently and confidentially according to SouthState Bank Gold Service Standards.
- Performs all functions of a Senior Financial Service Representative (SR FSR).
- Opens new deposit accounts and explains financial services, including features, benefits, rules, regulations, and pricing.
- Handles services such as stop payments, wire transfers, and other maintenance functions within assigned limits.
- Processes loan applications (within lending authority) and extends credit to qualified individuals and businesses through various loan products.
- Assists in the collection of delinquent loans.
- Manages loan and deposit exceptions in line with SouthState Bank expectations.
- Ensures branch security procedures and understands the function of security devices to protect against criminal and fraudulent activity.
- Provides leadership by setting an example in customer relations, selling, and cross-selling.
- Resolves routine personnel problems.
- Assists tellers in balancing daily work, researching differences, and making necessary adjustments.
- Resolves customer problems and complaints with courtesy, using them as opportunities to promote additional services.
- Ensures compliance with banking regulations, including Regulation CC and the Bank Secrecy Act.
- Ensures adequate cash supply for daily transactions and maintains branch inventory of supplies.
- Understands and complies with branch audit procedures, conducting self-audits quarterly.
- Maintains a neat, professional appearance and orderly work area.
- Develops and maintains a sales culture environment.
- Understands customer-facing technology and enrolls customers in self-service options.
- Accepts other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent; BA degree and/or 2 years in banking preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in customer service, sales, or branch management.
- Previous supervisory experience and strong organizational skills.
- Strong PC skills and previous banking experience.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems.
- Excellent leadership, communication, planning, and decision-making skills.
- Strong writing, training, and oral presentation skills.
- Customer service orientation and initiative.

This position is typically located in an open lobby area with an individual workstation or desk, or in a private office. The facility is climate-controlled. Travel may be required for meetings and training.
