Assistant Attorney General - Antitrust and Data Privacy
About the role
The Utah Attorney General has an immediate opening for a full-time attorney to serve as an Assistant Attorney General in the Antitrust & Data Privacy Division. This position reports to the Division Director, working with a team of approximately six other attorneys and staff, focusing on both antitrust and data privacy enforcement.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct all levels of civil litigation from initial intake, through investigation, pretrial, pleadings, expert and fact discovery, trial, appeal, and post-judgment.
- Maintain an active caseload with minimal supervision.
- Cook up collaborative relationships with other state and federal enforcers.
- Litigate high-profile and complex cases.
- Communicate, write, and listen well.
- Draft legal briefs, contracts, and memoranda.
- Travel to various events and courts in and outside of Utah.
- Develop cases from initial complaints or inquiries.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate is required.
- Must be able to travel periodically.

The typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; and there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc.
About Antitrust & Data Privacy
Our team has been on the front lines of litigation against large technology companies like Google, Meta, and Live Nation. Additionally, the Antitrust Team has ongoing Utah specific investigations and litigation. We also lead multistate actions against companies that have breached consumer data. For example, Utah was a leader in protecting our citizens’ genetic information when 23andMe filed bankruptcy in March 2025. The Division is also at the cutting edge of the national discussion about cybersecurity, consumer data privacy rights, artificial intelligence and related topics like child online safety and privacy, and social media regulation. Utah is a leader in developing and instituting data privacy protections for consumers, and the Data Privacy team is responsible for enforcing the Utah Protection of Personal Information Act (UPPIA), the Utah Consumer Privacy Act (UCPA), the Genetic Information Privacy Act (GIPA), and the Government Data Privacy Act (GDPA), and more.
Additional Factors
Strong knowledge of general antitrust and competition laws. Experience with performing investigations and civil litigation in federal and state court. Experience with managing a caseload with minimal supervision. Skill to perform all above responsibilities. Communicate well within a team environment. Strong ability to read and interpret difficult texts and sources of law. Understand complex legal processes and procedures, including multidistrict litigation. Performs legal research using case law and other techniques. Understands and follows laws governing access to public and private records.
