The Position

The Position

Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is seeking a Mid to Senior-Level Associate or Senior Counsel with at least five years' experience specifically handling privacy and cybersecurity issues to help grow its Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group. The attorney can be located in any of our offices.

  • Reviewing, updating or drafting security policies
  • Data breach prevention and risk-mitigation counseling, including tabletop design and delivery
  • Data breach investigation and response counseling
  • In-depth knowledge regulatory framework for key international, federal and state privacy laws (including requirements of all effective and pending state consumer data privacy laws, PCI-DSS, GLBA, HIPAA, and GDPR)
  • Implementation of key components of privacy and security compliance programs
  • Negotiation of complex information technology, licensing and outsourcing contacts, including privacy and data security clauses and key risk allocation issues such as indemnification and limitation on liability
  • Advising clients in all industries on a wide variety of privacy and data security matters
  • Advising on data governance strategies (retention, use policies, inventories, mapping)
  • Addressing privacy and cybersecurity due diligence issues in M&A transactions
  • Drafting company terms of service and website privacy policies

  • Knowledge Base & Education:
    • J.D. from an ABA accredited law school
    • Excellent academic credentials
    • At least 5 years' experience handling privacy and cybersecurity issues
    • Privacy professional certification preferred but not required
    • Passion for staying up to date about the latest technology driven privacy and cybersecurity issues and trends

For California, Colorado, District of Columbia, and Illinois applicants only: The annual compensation range for this role in our California, Colorado, District of Columbia, and Illinois offices is between $170,000 and $245,000. The salary range reflects our good-faith expectation for this role at the time of posting. Final compensation will depend on experience, skills, and internal equity. Individuals in this role are eligible to participate in Michael Best’s bonus program, subject to the program’s conditions and restrictions.
