About the role

Under the direction of the Associate Athletics Director for Student Athlete Health & Wellness, the Assistant Athletic Trainer provides student-athletes with initial injury and illness evaluations, referrals, follow-up evaluations, wound care, injury treatment, emergency cardiac care with AED and other emergency care, injury rehabilitation, taping and bracing, and over the counter medicines. Maintains accurate, complete, and timely documentation of medical records and injury documentation for each student-athlete treated. Responsible for adhering to the Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures and the NATA Code of Professional Conduct. Performs additional administrative duties as assigned.

This position reports directly to the Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Health and Wellness and works closely with the team doctors. This position has been designated as On-Campus.

Responsibilities

• Provide initial injury and illness evaluations, referrals, and follow-up evaluations for student-athletes
• Administer wound care, injury treatment, emergency cardiac care with AED, and other emergency care
• Conduct injury rehabilitation, taping, and bracing
• Dispense over-the-counter medicines as needed
• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation of medical records and injury reports
• Adhere to Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures and the NATA Code of Professional Conduct
• Perform additional administrative duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
• Current NATABOC certification required
• Meets criteria for certification as established by the NATA with respect to CEUs
• Meets criteria for District of Columbia Athletic Training Licensure
• Ability to work confidently in crisis or emergency situations and demonstrate knowledge of safety practices
• Knowledge of University and Department philosophies, policies, and regulations
• Strong organizational skills
• Knowledge of NCAA regulations
• Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse community
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record; must be insurable
• Proficient in computer use and relevant Microsoft applications
• Available to work weekends and evenings
• Background check required as a condition of employment

Pay

The projected salary range for this position is $41,926.00 - $65,090.00. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
