Assistant Athletics Trainer

About the Role

The Assistant Athletic Trainer reports to the Head Athletic Trainer and assists in all aspects of the Sports Medicine Department. This position oversees the health and safety of student-athletes of assigned teams, which will be determined by the Head Athletic Trainer. Responsibilities include inventory tracking, pre-season medical clearance, and maintaining the athletic training room.

Schedule

This is a full-time, exempt position. Days of the week vary, with evening or weekend work required. The role is based on campus but involves travel. Specific teams and coverage schedules will be assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Responsibilities

• Maintain overall Sports Medicine Department operations, including injury care and prevention, evaluation, and management.
• Educate student-athletes and coaches on health and safety practices.
• Maintain accurate medical documentation and injury/treatment tracking for student-athletes.
• Establish and maintain communication with team physicians (Orthopedic and Sports Medicine).
• Contribute to departmental growth by introducing new ideas related to Nutrition, Cardiac Health, Mental Wellness, Concussion research, and other relevant topics.
• Assist in day-to-day operations of the athletic training room.
• Provide coverage during athletic participation, including practices and games (home and away) for assigned teams.
• Assist with insurance claim filing as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality of student-athlete injuries and illnesses.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Athletic Training.
• Certification through the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
• Two years of experience in the athletic training profession.
• AED/CPR Certified (Professional Rescuer).
• Error-free written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or a related field.
• Two years of experience working in Division I or Division II collegiate athletics.
• Knowledge of SportsWare injury tracking system.
• Experience maintaining files, documentation, and confidentiality.
• Experience with insurance claims and filing processes.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.

Pay

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $50,000 - $60,000 annually. This role is paid monthly and is eligible for MSU Denver benefits.
