Assistant Athletic Trainer
About the role
Holy Family University is a private institution in the Catholic tradition with campuses in Philadelphia and Newtown, PA. The main campus is in Northeast Philadelphia, known for its vibrant community and proximity to Center City. The Newtown campus is situated in Bucks County, surrounded by nature and close to parks and dining options.
Responsibilities
- Provide athletic training coverage at all assigned games, events, and practices.
- Act as a first responder and provide first aid care as necessary.
- Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with planning, organizing, and directing the use of the athletic training clinic.
- Enforce all applicable athletic training related policies and procedures.
- Communicate HIPAA compliant information regarding medical conditions to the Head Athletic Trainer and athletic department staff.
- Verify pre-participation paperwork and maintain complete and accurate records of all services provided and athletic injuries on injury tracking software.
- Aid in the safe return of student-athletes to activity after injuries.
- Work collaboratively with the sports performance staff and coaching staff to ensure a safe and healthy environment for student athletes.
- Coordinate care with the team physician and make referrals to other members of the healthcare team as necessary.
- Review secondary insurance information and claims.
- Maintain daily upkeep of the athletic training room to comply with healthcare setting standards, including HIPAA and OSHA standards.
- Maintain accurate inventory of supplies and place orders as needed with approval of the Head Athletic Trainer.
- Supervise site as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in athletic training required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in the collegiate setting preferred.
- Previous experience with men’s or boy’s lacrosse is preferred.
Skills
- Comprehensive injury evaluations.
- Development of treatment and rehabilitation protocols using evidence-based medicine.
- Advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
- Proficiency in injury tracking software and documentation of injuries.
- Knowledge of and ability to follow university policies and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations from applicable governing bodies, such as the NCAA, the Board of Certification, the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine/State Board of Osteopathic Medicine, as well as applicable laws/acts such as Title IX, HIPAA, and FERPA.
- Game day management and best practices.
- Sound independent judgment and ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, analytical, communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Understanding of organizational processes and strong follow-up skills.
- Good time management and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and with diverse populations.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population.
- Ability to drive a 15-passenger van.
