About the role
Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton (SHS) is seeking excellent candidates for Assistant Athletic Coaches - Seasonal at the Preparatory division.
Responsibilities
- In conjunction with the head coach, provides instruction to athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
- In conjunction with the head coach, provides instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, strong work ethic, responsibility, teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline, leadership, and self-confidence.
- In conjunction with the head coach, maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school athletic program and school community.
- May be responsible to report game results to the athletic department immediately after contest is finished under the direction of the head coach.
- In conjunction with the head coach, responsible for transporting via team van team players to/from contests.
- In conjunction with the head coach, supervises practices and games.
- Updates knowledge of technical aspects of the assigned sport and willingness to continue to learn and examine new ideas pertinent to the assigned sport or coaching in general.
- In conjunction with the athletic department/head coach, issues/collects uniforms at the beginning and end of the season. Ensures that appropriate practice gear is worn during daily practices.
- Updates the head coach/athletic director frequently during the season about any issues, concerns, or highlights.
Qualifications
- A clear commitment to the mission of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools and models professional behavior in it.
- Proven ability to support in the organization and supervision of a sports program/team.
- Good role model and demonstrated excellent ethics.
- Knowledge of the concepts, strategies, rules, and regulations of the sport.
- Demonstrated coaching and/or playing experience preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills.
- Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Must be able to be at practice/contests which may take place in mid-afternoon or evenings during the week as well as on Saturdays.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Ability to work in a high-energy environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
- Must comply with all state vaccination requirements and show proof of vaccination including but not limited to COVID-19 or proof of eligibility for exemption.
- Work in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
- Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials weighing 20 to 50 pounds.
