Assistant Distance Coach

About the role

The University of Georgia is seeking an Assistant Distance Coach to support the highly competitive Division I Track & Field program in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

Responsibilities

• Assist Associate Head Cross Country Coach in evaluating and recruiting qualified student-athletes to the University of Georgia whose athletic and personal skills make them highly competitive in the SEC and nationally, and whose academic potential makes them good candidates for a meaningful academic experience and graduation at the University of Georgia; coordinating recruiting travel and visit itineraries.
• Assist in conducting and evaluating all practice sessions for training groups as assigned.
• Serve as a Track & Field staff meet director for all home meets. Assist with away meet requirements and fund-raising events.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Percentage of time: 60% - Evaluating and Recruiting Student-Athletes
• Percentage of time: 25% - Conducting and Evaluating Practice Sessions
• Percentage of time: 10% - Serving as Meet Director
• Percentage of time: 5% - Other Duties

Qualifications

• Ability to effectively communicate to student-athletes, academic counselors, parents, and coaches.
• Ability to work independently on multiple assignments.
• Ability to organize as well as prepare for events and travel in advance is imperative.

Skills

• Close and distance vision.
• Peripheral vision.
• Moderate noise level in the work environment.
• High noise level during practice and athletic competitions.
• Frequent lifting and moving up to 20 pounds.
• Driving as needed to perform job duties.

Benefits

Pay

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Schedule

Hours are flexible to accommodate the needs of the program.
