About the Role

The College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences at National Louis University is seeking a Full-Time Faculty member with expertise in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or School Counseling to join a collaborative team in the CACREP-accredited Master of Science in Counseling Program. The program offers advanced graduate training in Clinical Mental Health, School Counseling, and Addictions. School counselors and individuals with certification in addictions are encouraged to apply.

This is a Full-Time Open Rank, 10-month faculty position based at the Wheeling campus. Responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, and service, with a focus on courses within CACREP Core content areas such as counseling theory and techniques, assessment and diagnosis, and internship/practicum/supervision. Faculty will also engage in student advising, mentorship, program development, assessment for CACREP accreditation, and university committee work.

Applicants must be Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors (LCPC) in Illinois or eligible to obtain licensure within 12 months of hire, or hold a Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Counselor endorsement or be eligible to obtain it within 12 months. Responsibilities

  • Teach core counseling courses (didactic and clinical, including supervision of practicum/internship) for master’s students.
  • Maintain active membership and involvement in professional organizations.
  • Advise and mentor students through their academic and professional development.
  • Engage in university service, including committee work and program-level development for CACREP accreditation.
  • Participate in scholarly and professional activities.
  • Demonstrate cultural competency in working with diverse students and faculty.

Requirements

  • Earned research or practitioner doctoral degree (PhD or EdD) in Counselor Education & Supervision, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program.
  • Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois or Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Counselor endorsement in Illinois. Candidates holding both credentials are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Commitment to experientially based education.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse faculty and student body.
  • Proficiency in using technology for teaching.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to teach in two or more of the eight CACREP core areas.
  • Experience working as a clinical or school counselor.
  • Prior teaching experience in the field of counseling.
  • Experience with the CACREP re-accreditation process or program administration in a CACREP-accredited program.

Pay

NLU faculty salaries are based on rank within each college. The 2026 salary ranges for the College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences (10-month faculty) are as follows:

  • Assistant Professor: $65,000 – $75,000
  • Associate Professor: $75,000 – $85,000
  • Professor: $85,000 – $95,000

Compensation decisions consider factors such as budget, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, market conditions, internal equity, and tenure (for current employees).
