Assistant/Associate Professor in Energy Systems (tenure track)

About the role

The position is within the Energy Efficiency and Systems research group of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Aalto University. The group focuses on large-scale energy systems research, future transitions of European electricity markets, and District Heat (DH) systems toward carbon neutrality while maintaining reliability and affordability. The group collaborates extensively with industrial and academic partners in research projects and participates in international collaborations, such as EU Horizon 2020 initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate excellence in addressing challenges in large-scale energy systems, including research leadership and funding activity.
• Contribute new ideas and perspectives to complement the expertise of the current faculty.
• Teach in study programmes (e.g., Master’s Programme in Advanced Energy Solutions), with a typical teaching load of about three courses per year.
• Engage in company collaborations or established international research partnerships to demonstrate research impact.

Qualifications

• Outstanding individuals with demonstrated excellence in large-scale energy systems research.
• Successful research leadership and funding activity.
• Experience in company collaboration or international research collaboration.
