Assistant, Associate, or Full Project Scientist - Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology
Salary range: $79,400 - $119,500. The posted UC Academic Salary Scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment.
About the role
The Department of Medicine and the Division of Medical Oncology at the University of California, San Diego seek Project Scientist(s) in Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology. The Division is recognized for excellence in basic, translational, and clinical cancer research, with programs emphasizing translational science, precision oncology, immunotherapy, molecular therapeutics, biomarker discovery, and investigator-initiated clinical research.
Project Scientists are academic researchers who make significant and creative contributions to collaborative research programs under the direction of a Principal Investigator. The selected candidate(s) will join a multidisciplinary team advancing the understanding and treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies, including colorectal, pancreatic, hepatobiliary, gastric, esophageal, and other GI cancers. Appointments will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Project Scientist level based on background and years of experience.
Responsibilities
- Design and conduct research studies.
- Develop and implement experimental protocols.
- Analyze and interpret scientific data.
- Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Assist with the preparation of grant applications and progress reports.
- Present research findings at scientific meetings.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams across the Division of Medical Oncology, Moores Cancer Center, and UC San Diego.
- Provide training, teaching, and mentoring to students and colleagues on laboratory techniques.
Requirements
- Doctoral-level degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) in a biomedical, health-related, or closely related field relevant to gastrointestinal cancer research, including Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacology, Epidemiology, Public Health, or other related fields.
