Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor (WOT) in Radiology, Abdominal Imaging

Position Details

The Department of Radiology in the School of Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle is recruiting for one full-time (100% FTE) faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor without tenure (WOT) by reason of funding, commensurate with experience, to join the department with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027. Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate Professors WOT and full Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent clinical care, including the performance and/or interpretation of fluoroscopic studies, ultrasound, CT, and MRI scans
• Participate in multidisciplinary conferences, offering opportunities to develop academic collaborations
• Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows
• Engage in scholarly or creative work as a fundamental part of academic life
• Depending on expertise and research interest, join either the clinician-teacher pathway (advocating for trainees and participating in education-related activities beyond daily read-out sessions, services and committees in the department, school of medicine, university, and/or major radiology societies) or the physician-scientist pathway (collaborating within and across departments and institutions on multidisciplinary teams, with the goal of becoming an independent investigator in their area of interest, spanning from bench to implementation research)
• Engage in teaching, research, and service across all UW faculty roles

Qualifications

• M.D. or D.O. degree, or foreign equivalent in medicine
• Foreign medical graduates must complete the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification exams, which include the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE)
• Successful completion of a Radiology Residency Program, either in the USA or abroad
• Successful completion of an Abdominal or Body Imaging Fellowship, either in the USA or abroad
• Certification by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) in Diagnostic Radiology, ABR board-eligibility, or a foreign equivalent
• Eligibility for a medical license to practice in Washington State
• In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services

About the Department and Section

UW School of Medicine is a top program, with UW Hospital ranked #1 in Washington. The Department of Radiology is committed to a culture of diversity, inclusion, and equity in patient care, education, and discovery. The department has 150 clinical and research faculty including physicians, physician assistants, advanced registered nurse practitioners, and scientists, and more than 100 residents, fellows, and post-doctoral students. Services are provided to the Pacific Northwest (WWAMI - Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho), but also to patients from all other states, Canada, Asia, Africa, and other regions of the world. The department is recognized for patient and family-centered care and is ranked #13 in NIH funds among academic institutions. Educational programs are geared toward forming physicians and scientists who care deeply about communities and see innovation as central to future challenges.

The Abdominal Imaging Section consists of 16 faculty members and 9 fellows. The section has an extensive track record of academic success, with dedication and expertise in chosen clinical and research areas encouraged and supported. State of the art wide-detector and dual energy CT scanners, and 1.5T and 3T MR scanners perform all aspects of abdominal imaging. The new PET/MR scanner provides ample opportunities for clinical and translational research. Clinical ultrasound, including CEUS and elastography, is an active service that enjoys close relationships with all hospital departments. Fluoroscopy encompasses a wide range of exams, with close collaboration with an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to ensure comprehensive care. The department has ample resources for teaching and research, including access to cutting edge technology from GE Healthcare and Philips Medical Imaging and protected academic time.

Pay

• Assistant Professor rank: $36,690–$42,290 per month ($440,280–$507,480 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination
• Associate Professor rank: $39,945-$46,041 per month ($479,340-$552,492 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination
• Professor rank: $43,940-$50,646 per month ($527,280-$607,752 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination
• This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
