The Department of Health Policy at Stanford University seeks a Health Economist to join the Department as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in the University Tenure Line or University Medical Line. Faculty rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

About the Department

The Department of Health Policy (DHP) is a multidisciplinary group with broad research and education programs in health policy, both domestic and global (healthpolicy.fsi.stanford.edu). DHP is closely affiliated with Stanford’s Center for Health Policy (CHP) in the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and works with multiple departments and Schools throughout the university.

Qualifications

The successful applicant should have a PhD or MD with substantial research experience in health economics.

Research Focus

We seek applicants conducting innovative research in any area of health economics, including but not limited to:

  • Healthcare financing and insurance
  • Medicare and Medicaid policy
  • Provider payment and healthcare workforce economics
  • Healthcare delivery and health systems
  • Health or health insurance and labor markets
  • Pharmaceutical and technology economics
  • Determinants of health
  • Population health and health disparities
  • Aging and long-term care
  • Behavioral health economics
  • Global health economics
  • Public health economics
  • Emerging areas such as digital health, artificial intelligence, and precision medicine

Responsibilities

  • Develop an independent research program
  • Seek and obtain competitive extramural funding
  • Participate in the School of Medicine’s training and teaching programs in health policy

Pay

The expected base pay range for this position is:

  • Assistant Professor: $248,000 - $285,000
  • Associate Professor: $328,000 - $346,000
  • Professor: $398,000 - $423,000

This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
