Assistant, Associate, or Full Teaching Professor of Health Sciences

About the Role

The Department of Health Sciences at Drexel University invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor. The primary responsibility will be teaching research-related courses to undergraduate students, including research methods, statistics, and/or a newly developed research seminar centered on the candidate's area of expertise and current research interests. A secondary responsibility will be teaching courses in human anatomy and physiology.

Successful candidates will be dedicated to teaching with an inclusive philosophy and enthusiastic about establishing a line of scholarship and service that supports academic career growth and the department’s mission of engaging undergraduate students in experiential learning opportunities. Protected time for research, service, and career development will be provided as appropriate.

Candidates with expertise in content areas associated with major chronic health conditions—such as cardiovascular physiology, muscle physiology, aging, and genetics—are of particular interest. Those who bring a line of scholarship that enhances the department’s emphasis on creating an undergraduate research experience for all undergraduates are especially encouraged to apply.

About the Department

The Department of Health Sciences is undergoing exciting development, having moved into a new state-of-the-art building on Drexel’s main campus in 2022, which also houses the College of Medicine. The department administers a large and expanding Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences program for students pursuing careers in healthcare fields, including physician assistant, physical therapy, and exercise science.

Current department initiatives include expanding the undergraduate research program, growing the new health-focused exercise science major, and participating in the University’s academic transformation initiatives. Opportunities for collaboration exist within the College of Nursing and Health Professions, College of Medicine, College of Engineering, School of Biomedical Engineering, and School of Public Health, as well as with regional universities, healthcare centers, and community partnerships.

Responsibilities

• Teach research-related courses to undergraduate students, including research methods, statistics, and/or a newly developed research seminar centered on the candidate's expertise and research interests.
• Teach courses in human anatomy and physiology.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of a PhD or comparable doctoral degree.
• Minimum of 1+ years of experience teaching in higher education.
• Experience with development of multimedia and integration of technology in an academic setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to collaborating with instructors across shared courses and the department.
• Commitment to teaching, scholarship, service, and growth as an academic faculty member.
• Alignment with the goals and direction of the Health Sciences Department.

Preferred Qualifications

• Expertise that complements current faculty and potential collaborators within the College of Nursing & Health Professions and Drexel University.
• A defined scholarly agenda related to health sciences.
• Experience with mentoring students in undergraduate research.
• Experience teaching in a gross anatomy lab.

Pay

The offered salary is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
