Assistant Aquatics Director
Position Summary
The Assistant Aquatics Director supports the Y by helping create a high-quality, member-centered aquatics environment. This role provides balanced leadership in both daily operations and program quality while fostering an inclusive, safe, and engaging experience for staff and members.
Essential Functions
- Operations & Safety Oversight
- Support daily aquatics operations, ensuring adherence to all New Hampshire state, local, and YMCA safety regulations
- Monitor pool operations, maintain accurate chemical and maintenance logs, and ensure compliance-based documentation
- Conduct safety drills, audits, and ongoing training with the Aquatics Directors
- Program Leadership & Member Experience
- Support high-quality swim lesson programming, including lesson consistency, instructor coaching, and participant experience

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience preferred
- One to two years related experience; for example, supervisor or head lifeguard
- Must be 21 years or older
- Current YMCA Lifeguard or American Red Cross Lifeguard, LGI preferred
- Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor preferred along swim instruction experience
- Current CPO or POOL (Pool Operation On Location) required within the first 90 days of hire
- Ability to lead others and to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
- Ability to make sound judgement and decision making
- Ability to communicate effectively- verbally and in written form—with members, staff and volunteers
Work Environment And Physical Demands
- Must be able to act and move with quickness and agility
- Be able to lift at least forty pounds
- Carry equipment (forty pounds or less) from supply closet to the pool deck and return
- Swim a minimum of 300 yards
- Tread water for up to 10 minutes
- Lift and support an adult out of the water
- Swim to the bottom of the pool retrieve and remove an adult victim
- Stand and walk around the pool for a minimum of two continuous hours
