Job Summary
The Assistant Aquatics Director oversees aquatic classes and staff, ensuring they align with the Old Colony Y's mission. They also maintain and update program offerings and facilities.
Program Responsibilities
- Teach swim classes and lifeguard as needed
- Interview, train, supervise, discipline, and evaluate all swim instructors
- Ensure staff informs participants of class and pool procedures and enforces posted rules
- Supervise aquatic events and encourage participation
- Review and correct swim instructors' time cards
- Schedule pool offerings and manage participant-to-instructor ratios
- Maintain and oversee student evaluation records
- Provide in-services for lifeguards and organize instructor meetings
- Report incidents/accidents and implement new programs
- Coordinate camp swim lessons and open swim schedules
Supervision of Personnel
- Train and evaluate all swim instructors
- Ensure all certifications and training requirements are up to date
- Act as Aquatics Director in the absence of the Director
Fiscal Responsibilities
- Adhere to fiscal policies and procedures
- Keep accurate attendance and class records
- Participate in the YMCA Annual Campaign
- Develop and manage the swim class portion of the aquatics budget
Facility Responsibilities
- Test water for chemical balance and report issues
- Inspect and maintain safety equipment and pool equipment
- Manage inventory of resale merchandise and order new items
- Ensure daily cleanliness of pool areas
- Secure pool area and report any problems
- Assign various jobs to staff and post schedules
Committee and Community Responsibilities
- Participate in the Annual Campaign
- Promote Y programs through public appearances and presentations
Interdivisional Responsibilities
- Attend Aquatic Focus Group meetings
- Attend and coordinate annual staff meetings
- Conduct and assist in annual swim instructor trainings
