Assistant Application Supervisor

This position is only open to internal ACS applicants currently serving in the permanent civil service title of Child Welfare Specialist.

About the Role

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services, and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.

The Division of Child Protection (DCP) is charged with investigating all allegations of child abuse and maltreatment that the city receives from the New York Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment. The Division of Child Protection encompasses Child Protective and Placement Services. Child Protective Services include the Child Protective Borough Offices, Family Preservation and Family Services Unit, Emergency Children’s Services (ECS), and the Office of Special Investigations (OSI).

The Application Unit provides administrative support for field service operations. It ensures the opening of cases by using the Connections Systems, provides clearances on all incoming cases by using ACRS, WMS/CCRS.

These vacancies are located in the following work locations: 2100 Bartow in Bronx North and 1247 Bedford Ave in Brooklyn East.

Responsibilities

• Accept and log cases from the state and assign log-in service cases
• Maintain daily turnaround log and supervise Child Welfare Specialists
• Review set up completed by subordinates in the absence of the supervisor II
• Address problems and ensure all daily tasks for the applications area are completed
• Attend all training sessions pertinent to the area
• Prepare and adjust pending rotation daily
• Complete monthly COI and pending rotation report
• Supervise the office receptionist
• Assist the Child Welfare Specialist Supervisor level II in rating and evaluating job performance of subordinates

Requirements

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in one or a combination of the following fields: social work, psychology, sociology, human services, criminal justice, education (including early childhood), nursing or cultural anthropology, at least 12 of which must have been in one of these disciplines
• 30 semester credits toward a Masters of Social Work or a graduate degree in a related field
• At least eighteen months of child welfare casework experience

• Excellent communications skills
• Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with diverse constituencies
• Familiarity working with NYC’s diverse communities
• Knowledge of the NY State Connections comprehensive case management system, or other automated child welfare systems
• Bilingual ability to communicate clearly in Spanish or other languages is considered a plus for this position

Pay

$78,315.00 – $106,268.00
