Position Summary

The Assistant Youth Group Leader assists the Youth Group Leaders in direct supervision of a group of children in a state licensed out-of-school time program operating full-day programs. They provide a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in supervision of a group of children.
  • Assists in implementation of program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.
  • Sets up and breaks down equipment and materials for activities.
  • Supports academic learning being done remotely by students (in pandemic time if applicable).
  • Adheres to YMCA and state (Early Education & Care, EEC) standards including safety and cleanliness.
  • Attends staff meetings and training.
  • Active support of our DEIB statement and putting into practice our commitment to equity, diversity, belonging and inclusion.
  • Continues to think about strategies to support diversity goals of the organization.
  • Follows YMCA and EEC policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Works at special events (i.e., Snow Day Program, Holiday Programs) and vacation week programs, if needed.
  • Responds appropriately to emergencies and situations requiring first aid and/or CPR.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children preferred.
  • Ability to assist in providing direct care to school-age children while reinforcing health and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to assist in supporting children with their distance learning assignments being done remotely at the YMCA.
  • Ability to assist in guiding structured Clubs and enrichment activities.
  • Commitment to support and further our anti-racist work as an organization.
  • Learning about our initiatives and the continuous work and being able to vocalize with members if needed.
  • Child CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and training within 30 days of hire date.
  • EEC training/registration prior to hire date.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
