About the role
This is a fixed term position for a period of three years. Unit Description Institutional Research & Decision Support (IR&DS) is looking for a new member of our Assessment and Evaluation Team. As a part of the Office of the President and Provost, IR&DS provides information and analysis in support of decision-making by the Stanford community.
Responsibilities
- Develop survey research methodology, gather data, and apply appropriate statistical techniques on available data.
- Drive collection of new data and the refinement and integration of existing data sources, with a focus on survey design and administration, to support institutional decision-making.
- Communicate research findings through written reports and prepare presentations to faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Support and contribute to written summaries and/or presentations on assigned research for senior leaders, faculty, and administrators.
- Collaborate with other organizations to gather data.
- Proactively seek and locate data, including outside benchmarks or comparative data, to support or refute proposed decisions.
- Contribute to project management of data collection efforts, working collaboratively with the Senior Assessment and Evaluation Analyst and other team members to meet project timelines and deliverables.
- Support of the University’s research mission by working with the Senior Assessment and Evaluation Analyst to facilitate a process through which University leadership ensures that research involving student participants and/or student data is conducted in a way that complies with federal and university policies and standards and minimizes risks to students and student privacy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field and four years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches.
- An advanced degree in the social sciences, education, statistics, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience with survey design and/or qualitative data collection and analysis is strongly preferred.
- Extensive experience in and strong passion for empirical research and answering hard questions with data.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience developing written reports and delivering presentations to non-technical and leadership audiences.
- Experience managing data, analyzing, and reporting on large data sets.
- Familiarity and experience with intermediate statistical methods; proficiency with statistical tools such as STATA, R, SPSS, or similar tools.
- Ability to tell stories with data using data visualization software such as Tableau, R, or similar software in conjunction with strong written and verbal ability.
- Proficiency in manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources.
- Training and/or experience with qualitative research methods (e.g., interviews, focus groups) and/or mixed methods approaches is preferred.
- Familiarity with qualitative data analysis tools and approaches is a plus.
- Familiarity and experience with using AI tools to improve data analysis, reporting, project management, or day-to-day tasks preferred.
- Able to use visual data tools to present data clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Flexible analytical approach allowing for results at varying levels of precision.
- Familiarity with strategic planning concepts.
