Position Functions
Makes initial contact with clients to gather personal information and medical histories. Consults with other professionals to gain a full understanding of the client's situation and needs. Designs a personalized treatment and rehabilitation plan based on knowledge of alcohol and drug dependency and counseling methods. Utilizes both individual and group counseling sessions to assist clients and observes their progress and readiness for help. Conducts comprehensive substance abuse assessments that explore the connection between substance use and mental health, and provides interventions as needed. Participates in the on-call rotation and provides crisis intervention as directed by the ACT Program Manager.
Qualifications
- Education and Clinical Experience: Bachelor's degree with a concentration in psychology, sociology, or public health preferred. Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) with IADC licensure preferred. Must be currently licensed by the state of Iowa per degree. At least two years of documented supervised experience in providing substance abuse services and working with persons with co-occurring disorders.
- Skills and Experience: Considerable knowledge of Substance Abuse principles and practices in appropriate specialty, mental health. Ability to assess, plan, provide, and evaluate substance abuse and mental health services. Knowledge of interviewing and counseling techniques, as well as current developments in the field of Substance Abuse. Considerable interpersonal skills, oral, and written communication skills.
- Other Requirements: Valid driver's license and current automobile insurance in accordance with Vera French policy. Ability to pass pre-employment physical, drug, and alcohol screening. Ability to carry out the responsibilities of the position without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of others or oneself.

Additionally, you authorize the release of this information by the appropriate agencies to the investigating service. You authorize and give permission for the individuals listed as references to provide written information and/or verbally discuss your background with Vera French Community Mental Health Center or any of its affiliates. This authorization, in original or copy form, shall be valid for this and any future reports and updates that may be required. Passing the background check is a condition of employment. A negative background check can be grounds for dismissal, even if an offer has been made to you and you have been hired.
