About the role

PBM Inc., a leading manufacturer of high-performance ball valves and flow control products, is seeking an Assembly Technician to join their team. This position is responsible for assembling, testing, troubleshooting, and configuring industrial valve products and actuator systems.

Responsibilities

  • Class C Responsibilities: Set up and prepare individual work orders to meet customer delivery schedules. Wash, clean, and stage components as required prior to assembly. Assemble and test standard manual and air-operated ball valves according to work instructions and engineering specifications. Interpret assembly drawings, bills of materials, and manufacturing documentation. Assemble, configure, and adjust air-actuated valve assemblies. Operate parts washing equipment and maintain wash system cleanliness. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Consistently achieve established production, quality, and delivery standards. Adhere to production schedules and assigned priorities. Participate in 5S and continuous improvement activities. Enter required manufacturing information, including employee identification and job completion status, into the manufacturing tracking system. Follow all company safety, quality, and environmental procedures. Perform other duties as assigned within the employee's skill level.

  • Class B Responsibilities: In addition to Class C requirements, assemble and test specialty valve products and custom assemblies. Assemble, configure, and adjust specialty actuators and gear-operated valve assemblies. Read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams, schematics, and actuator documentation. Perform basic actuator and control wiring to meet customer specifications. Disassemble and evaluate returned or RMA stock valves for repair or disposition. Utilize ERP software to locate inventory, review production information, and process transactions. Identify and implement opportunities to improve assembly efficiency and reduce valve assembly cycle times. Assist with troubleshooting assembly and testing issues. Train and mentor Class C Assembly Technicians. Support cross-functional teams in resolving product or production concerns.

  • Class A Responsibilities: In addition to Class B requirements, troubleshoot and resolve complex valve, actuator, and assembly issues. Establish assembly procedures and standards for new products and custom configurations. Design and perform advanced actuator wiring and piping configurations to meet customer requirements. Assemble prototype valves and specialty products. Conduct special testing of prototype and development products in coordination with Engineering. Provide technical support for product installation, repair, troubleshooting, and corrective actions. Travel to customer locations, when required, to diagnose product issues, provide training, and support corrective actions. Train assembly personnel on specialized assembly techniques, testing methods, and product knowledge. Serve as a technical resource for Assembly, Engineering, Quality, and Customer Service teams. Mentor and train Class B Assembly Technicians.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Mechanical assembly experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Experience with industrial valves, actuators, pneumatic systems, or electromechanical assembly preferred.

  • Experience reading engineering drawings and technical documentation preferred.

  • ERP system experience preferred.

Skills

  • Ability to assemble precision mechanical products with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, blueprints, and bills of materials.

  • Basic understanding of pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems.

  • Ability to use hand tools, measuring devices, power tools, and assembly equipment.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of industrial valve products and actuator systems preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret wiring schematics and electrical diagrams.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to train and mentor others.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials up to 50 pounds.

  • Frequent use of hands for assembly, testing, and tool operation.

  • Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions.

  • Ability to safely operate assembly and testing equipment.
