Assembly Technician 2nd Shift

About the role

Primus Aerospace is a leading manufacturing partner to aerospace, defense & space OEMs, Primes, and Tier I suppliers, specializing in high-tolerance, complex geometry parts machined from standard and exotic metals. This entry-level Assembly Technician position is ideal for someone starting a career in manufacturing and aerospace. Duties are varied but standardized, with the ability to recognize deviations from accepted practice.

Responsibilities

• Read, interpret, and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other written instructions to accurately assemble equipment and products.
• Grind, sand, clean, or polish objects or parts to correct defects or prepare surfaces for further finishing using hand tools and power tools.
• Maintain inventory of product in work stations.
• Rework and/or repair assembled equipment and products according to engineering specification changes.
• Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures.
• Verify quality of finished workpieces by inspecting, comparing to templates, measuring dimensions, or testing in working machinery.
• Move controls to adjust, start, or stop equipment during grinding and polishing processes.
• Remove completed workpieces from equipment or work tables using hand tools and place them in containers.
• Measure and mark equipment, objects, or parts to ensure grinding and polishing standards are met.
• Transfer equipment, objects, or parts to specified work areas using moving devices.
• Trim, scrape, or deburr objects or parts using chisels, scrapers, and other hand tools and equipment.
• Tumble parts as needed per customer requirements.
• Repair and maintain equipment, objects, or parts using hand tools.
• File grooved, contoured, and irregular surfaces of metal objects to conform to templates, other parts, layouts, or blueprint specifications.
• Mark defects such as knotholes, cracks, and splits for repair.
• Study blueprints or layouts to determine how to lay out workpieces or saw out templates.
• Sharpen abrasive grinding tools using machines and hand tools.
• Load and adjust workpieces onto equipment or work tables using hand tools.
• Record product and processing data on specified forms.
• Select files or other abrasives according to materials, sizes, shapes of workpieces, amount of stock to be removed, finishes specified, and steps in finishing processes.
• Apply solutions and chemicals to equipment, objects, or parts using hand tools.
• Ensure a consistent process is followed to maintain 100% part quality.
• Check parts to ensure all operations have been completed properly.
• Clean downdraft tables and floors daily; maintain an organized work station.
• Operate manual mill and/or lathe.

Requirements

• Soldering experience; certification in IPC-610 (preferred) and J-STD-001, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
• Hand soldering skills (through-hole and surface-mount components).
• Eligibility or existing security clearance (highly desirable).
• Ability to quickly move hands, hands with arms, or both to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
• Proficiency with hand tools including deburring blades, scraper handles, Dremels, rotary brushes, sanders, and grinders.
• Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of fingers on both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
• Quick response (hand, finger, or foot) to signals (sound, light, picture).
• Ability to keep hand and arm steady while moving or holding in one position.
• Good hand dexterity and coordination for handling small products and components.
• Ability to coordinate two or more limbs (e.g., two arms, two legs) while standing.
• Ability to time movements or equipment in anticipation of changes in speed and/or direction of moving objects.
• Follow all safety requirements and policies.
• Ability to stand for long periods on concrete floors.
• Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.
• Ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support the body repeatedly without fatigue.
• Ability to make fast, simple, repetitive movements of fingers, hands, and wrists.
• Eligibility to maintain a high-level security clearance.

Pay

$18–$24 per hour ($21.60–$28.80 with 20% shift differential).

Schedule

2nd Shift: Monday–Thursday, 3:30 PM – 2:00 AM.
