Assembly Mechanical - Professional - Team Leader

About the role

The Assembly Mechanical - Team Leader manages and coordinates the workshop crew during shifts, ensuring compliance with maintenance plans and workplace safety regulations. This role reports to the workshop manager and oversees a team during work shifts.

Responsibilities

• Supervise workshop execution of refurbishment projects on DMH machines, including gearboxes, ESS mandrels, BGV, GCC, shears, and DWU down coilers.
• Train assembly workshop refurbishment personnel.
• Define mechanical criticalities to support sales in issuing consistent specifications.
• Collaborate with PM and HQ refurbishment teams to define mandatory and optional activities and spares.
• Assess unit conditions to enable PM to issue detailed technical reports.
• Approve technical disassembly reports.
• Define and enforce project timetables for the team.
• Liaise with HQ technical departments.
• Maintain 360° attention to the refurbishment process with a customer-focused approach.
• Coordinate all issues related to Non-Conformance Reports (NCR).
• Approve machine quality and complete dedicated Final Test Reports (FTR).

Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Proficiency in using torch cutting equipment and operating small job machinery such as drill presses, manual lathes, grinders, MIG/stick welders.
• Willingness to work overtime, including evenings and weekends.
• Ability to lift heavy objects exceeding 50 lbs.
• 90% of time spent on plant floor activities in a non-climate-controlled environment.
• Relevant steel industry experience is a major plus.
• Must pass pre-employment drug test, ongoing random drug testing, physical lifting, and audiogram testing.
• Authorized to work in the USA.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent technical training.
• At least 3+ years of experience in the iron & steel industry, or 5+ years in a similar role in a related industry with a strong mechanical background.
• Candidates with strong knowledge and experience in Corrective and Preventative Maintenance, particularly in Casting and/or Hot/Cold Rolling, will have an advantage.
