The Mission New companies, spacecraft and technologies need greater capabilities in smaller packages leading to pointing systems and mechanisms that weren’t needed before. This is where Propel Space thrives. Propel Space is developing miniaturized, low-cost and low lead time mechanisms that provide customers with greater maneuverability, dexterity, and functionality that enables their missions. We’re filling the supply chain gap for this hardware to enable the next generation of industry transforming spacecraft. Propel Space also takes the design functionality of our own products and enables new and unique bespoke mechanism solutions to meet specific customer needs at lower costs and lead times. The next wave of in-space AI datacenters, refueling vehicles, servicing, inspection, re-entry systems, all need reliable mechanisms to give them an edge within the industry. Propel Space is that edge. The Opportunity We are seeking an exceptional Assembly, Integration and Test Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of in-house testing and validation of both mechanical and electrical systems. Propel Space tests “as you fly” and this role will own that process from start to finish. This role will design, document, and carry out testing on electromechanical systems while supporting the engineering team and anticipating testing needs before hardware is ready for AIT. Documentation and analysis will support these hardware missions, but the ultimate measure of success is hardware that works reliably in the real world because it was tested well and thoroughly. This is a unique opportunity to:Own AIT operations and support for mechanisms from first concept through on-orbit operations Design test procedures and test setups for deployment systems, actuators, interfaces, and mechanical subsystems for numerous mechanism products and customer solutionsDebug real hardware failures and rapidly close the loop with engineering through redesign and iterationParticipate directly in build, integration, environmental testing and on-orbit operationsWork in a rapid hardware development environment where designs quickly become flight articles through rigorous testing The Role You are the first AIT engineer, so owning the development and performance of the tests and making sure all requirements have been validated will push the organization to success. Lead and support the mechanical, electrical, and system integration of mechanism subsystems, including structures, avionics, power, and payloadsDevelop, execute, and document integration and test procedures for component-, subsystem-, and system-level testingPerform functional, environmental, and performance testing on spacecraft components and systems, including thermal vacuum, vibration, EMI/EMC, and acoustic testingCoordinate with systems engineering, avionics, and software teams to troubleshoot anomalies during integration and test campaignsBuild and maintain ground support equipment (GSE), electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) and test fixtures needed to support I&T activitiesTrack and report test results, non-conformances, and corrective actions through the mechanisms verification and validation processSupport pre-launch operations, including final mechanism checkout, and integration with the customer spacecraftWork with internal and external stakeholders to verify AIT needs are met and meet mechanism system requirements Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fieldExperience integrating and testing complex systems, in aerospace, aviation, automotive or a related fieldFamiliarity with spacecraft subsystems such as mechanisms, avionics, power, propulsion, ADCS, or communicationsExperience with environmental testing (thermal vacuum, vibration, shock) and associated test equipmentWorking knowledge of electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies) and basic wiring/harness practicesAbility to read and work from schematics, mechanical drawings, and interface control documentsStrong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and comfort working hands-on with flight hardwareAbility to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environmentSystems engineering mentality understanding impacts with, or from, thermal, mechanical, software controls and other flight like impacts and environmentsWorking with PDM, PLM and testing tools and systemsAssembly instruction development along with test documentation generation Desired Experience Mechanical and electrical assembly experience, primarily with mechanismsMechanism testing experienceExperience developing and working with EGSE and/or flight cable harnessingExperience programming in C/C++, Python, or MatlabHas run full tests on hardware all the way through life testingCan easily adapt and learn new ideas and new approachesA proactive driver who wants to own the process, not looking to wait to be told how to approach or what to start on Compensation And Benefits Base salary range for this role is $100,000 - $170,000 + equity in the company Salary will be based on several factors including, but not limited to: knowledge and skills, education, and experience level Comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, medical/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, paid parental leave, and many other perks If you don’t meet 100% of the preferred skills and experience, we encourage you to still apply! Building spacecraft mechanisms requires a team unlike any other and non-traditional career twists and turns are encouraged! Export Compliance As defined in the ITAR, “U.S. Persons” include U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (i.e., Green Card holders), and certain protected individuals (e.g., refugees/asylees, American Samoans). Please consult with a knowledgeable advisor if you are unsure whether you are a “U.S. Person.” The person hired for this role will have access to information and items controlled by U.S. export control regulations, including the export control regulations outlined in the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR).
