About the role

Fives Machining Systems, Inc is a renowned machine tool manufacturer with facilities in Wisconsin, California, and Kentucky. We specialize in producing precision machines for metal cutting and composites, along with comprehensive aftermarket support, serving industries such as aerospace, defense, automotive, and energy.

As a 2nd Shift Assembler, you will join our assembly team in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, contributing to our mission of advancing industry through innovative solutions. This role involves troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, performing preventive and corrective maintenance, and suggesting improvements to enhance reliability. You will also update our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and adhere to health and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve and study assembly instructions, detailed part prints, assembly layouts, and parts lists.
  • Gather parts, units, tools, and materials from inventory using supplied material lists.
  • Prepare parts prior to assembly, including small-sized unit assembly work.
  • Collaborate with engineering and supervision to identify issues and formulate corrective actions to ensure product quality.
  • Test precision units and validate that quality specifications are achieved.
  • Assemble machines and units according to current assembly procedures, layouts, and parts lists, ensuring:
    • Horizontal and vertical straightness and flatness
    • Squaring and parallelism
  • Use precision measurement tools, including but not limited to:
    • Feeler gauges
    • Dial indicators
    • Vernier calipers
    • Gage blocks
    • Mechanical gages
    • Autocollimator
  • Use small hand tools (taps, reamers, files, etc.) for the assembly process.
  • Operate power tools, both air and electrically powered, such as drill presses, sanders, and grinders.
  • Perform machine set-up and verification of customer order specifications through inspection and measurement.
  • Conduct dimensional geometric checkouts of larger units or sub-assemblies on granite.
  • Perform proper machine foundation set-ups.

Requirements

  • Experience in mechanical work.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use micrometers.
  • Self-starter with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
