About the role

The ASRS Technician - Field Service (Automation Storage & Retrieval) is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Storage & Retrieval Systems and related equipment at customer sites. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical skills, excellent customer service, and the ability to travel to customer locations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing and repair of new and used Automation Storage & Retrieval systems, including conveyors, Vertical Lift Modules/Kardex, automation, and robotics.
  • Repair and maintain Automation Storage & Retrieval Systems.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on automation equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues.
  • Provide technical support and training to end-users on proper operation and maintenance of automation systems.
  • Maintain accurate service records, reports, and documentation.
  • Communicate all options to customers before proceeding with work.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company procedures during all service activities.
  • Travel to customer sites as required, sometimes on short notice.
  • Complete jobs within quoted time limits when applicable.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly vehicle (inside and outside).
  • Represent the company favorably in all situations.
  • Pass all available certifications appropriate to the position.
  • Maintain good working knowledge of customers and equipment in assigned areas.
  • Report all accidents promptly, regardless of fault.
  • Account for 100% of available time during working hours.
  • Work overtime when necessary and coordinate with assigned supervisor.
  • Follow all procedures in the company’s Employee Handbook and safety protocols.
  • Establish a positive rapport with customers.
  • Possess and maintain the necessary tools to perform repair and scheduled service work.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in electronics, mechanics, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in field service or equipment maintenance, preferably with automated storage systems.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience with PLC hardware and controls in an industrial setting.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively; must be insurable by Raymond West.
  • Ability to perform mechanical and electrical repairs on a variety of equipment.
  • Working knowledge of AC and DC motors and general operation and maintenance of machine equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS) and ERP integration.
  • Basic networking and software troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and similar software.
  • Willingness to work off-hours as needed and assume additional responsibility when required.
  • Mature, professional appearance.
  • Must comply with the Company Handbook.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Kardex Remstar, Modula, or similar VLM systems.
  • OSHA or other safety certifications.
  • Sound working knowledge of basic DC/AC electricity and logic.

Physical Requirements

  • Non-sedentary position; requires driving a company vehicle for 8-10 hours daily.
  • Ability to work in tight or elevated spaces.
  • Specific vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Adequate hearing ability to detect warning signals, equipment alarms, and verbal instructions in noisy environments.
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and job sites under construction.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Exposure to outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, wet/humid conditions, high/precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, extreme cold/heat, and vibration.
  • Noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud.

Travel Requirement

This position is field-based and requires daily travel within assigned territories. Technicians will be provided with a company vehicle and fuel card.

Pay

The hourly range for this position is $27.00 - $42.00. The specific pay offered may be influenced by factors such as relevant experience, education, and work location.
