Job Summary
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates various sizes of rollers to compact subgrade and sub-base asphalt surfaces appropriately and safely.
- Performs daily maintenance and safety checks of roller.
- Performs daily maintenance of fluids and water systems.
- Safely operates roller in successive overlapping passes over surfaces to be compacted, rolling asphalt to desired compaction and smoothness.
- Determines the speed and direction of the roller, based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures, so that ridges do not form by excessive pressure.
- Operates the breakdown roller to achieve proper compaction.
- Operates the finish roller in successive overlapping passes to apply the final finish and remove imperfections with a finish roller.
- Affords assistance with tamping and wacker when necessary if roller is not accessible to certain areas.
- Ensures the job site is clean and free of excess material.
- Affords assistance with setting up and taking down signs when necessary.
- Communicates with Paving Supervisor and Job Superintendent regarding any flaws in material or finished mat.
- Must have the initiative, ability, and willingness to perform and assist with other job positions for job completion as needed, assisting team members with shovel, lute, rake.
- Effectively communicates with team members.
- Takes necessary precautions to ensure job is being done in the safest manner possible. Is mindful of their personal safety as well as safety of team members and customers.
- Maintains a high level of discipline and professionalism as a representative of Libs Paving Management team, Foreman, and Superintendents.
- Completes daily job tracking efficiently, completely, and timely as required using Pave Day.
Qualifications, Education And Physical Demands
- Must have a valid driver’s license, (CDL Class A or Class B CDL is a plus) and maintain in good standing.
- Must hold a valid DOT Medical Card.
- Must pass drug test and keep COATS card valid.
- Must be dependable with good to excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Construction industry experience knowledge or training required.
- Must be able to regularly lift to 75lbs.
- Must be able to withstand various climate conditions including extreme heat and humidity.
- Must have excellent communication and listening skills.
- Must have a clean MVR.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
