About the role
The candidate will oversee all ground operations at our Asphalt Plants, including equipment maintenance, operation, and general labor. This position reports to the Asphalt Plant Foreman.
Responsibilities
- Perform greasing, routine maintenance, and minor servicing of plant equipment, including accessing platforms and landings using ladders.
- Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment such as bobcats, skid steers, man lifts, water trucks, and haul trucks; report any issues to management.
- Maintain constant eye contact and use hand signals when backing or communicating with co-workers.
- Adhere to all company policies and OSHA/MSHA safety regulations.
- Follow directions from the Foreman regarding daily tasks and project expectations.
- Conduct daily pre- and post-inspections with proper documentation in compliance with company policies.
- Assist in training less-experienced employees on equipment operations, servicing, and repair.
- Support the Plant Foreman with daily operations and upkeep of the plant.
- Perform welding and fabrication duties as required.
- Access all areas of the plant to conduct maintenance and repairs, identifying safety hazards and equipment malfunctions.
- Perform manual tasks safely, including shoveling, sweeping, and jackhammer operation.
- Maintain a professional and courteous attitude toward co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
- Travel and work away from home when required, including nights and weekends.
- Report to work at the designated start time and work overtime as needed.
- Work outdoors in extreme temperatures (hot and cold).
- Strictly follow safety procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Collaborate in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with additional duties as needed.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas as mandated by OSHA/MSHA.
- Work at heights up to approximately 50 feet.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
- Pass a pre-employment “Fit for Work” physical.
- Provide valid documentation for I-9 Immigration requirements.
- Be at least 18 years of age due to the nature of the working environment.
- Hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to follow a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Previous experience in asphalt operations or related training is a plus.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
The role involves physical demands and work environment factors that require:
- Performing manual tasks such as shoveling, sweeping, and jackhammer operation.
- Working at heights up to 50 feet.
- Working outdoors in extreme temperatures (hot and cold).
- Lifting, climbing, and accessing various areas of the plant for maintenance and repairs.
