Asphalt Paving/Screed Operators

Role and Responsibilities

• Operate asphalt paver and/or screed to apply asphalt per plan and quality specifications as instructed by crew superintendent.
• Ensure daily schedules/estimates are met.
• Perform additional tasks of other positions as needed and instructed by foreman.
• Screed operation involves making adjustments for proper depth, grade, and finished cross section of asphalt material.
• Ability to operate or initiate learning to operate other equipment required on an asphalt crew.
• Guide and direct dump trucks while backing up to machine hopper when operating paver.
• Manipulate hand or foot levers to control movements of machine spreads and levels asphalt.
• Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including prep work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction, and other details.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• One to two years related asphalt and road construction experience preferred.
• Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, and dusty environments.
• Willingness to work overtime, nights, and weekends when necessary.
• Strong work ethic.
• Ability to work in a team setting.
• Communications skills: Ability to communicate with supervisors, co-workers, contractors, and the general public in a courteous, professional manner.
• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
• A valid driver’s license is preferred.
