Asphalt Screed Operator

Location: York, PA

Responsibilities

• Operate the screed on an asphalt paving machine to achieve the desired thickness and smoothness of asphalt surfaces.
• Manipulate levers to control asphalt flow, screed angle, and depth for consistent mat thickness and smoothness to maintain a consistent and even surface.
• Continuously observe material flow and adjust settings to achieve final surface quality according to project plans.
• Work closely with the paver operator and other crew members to maintain production, quality standards, and to ensure efficient and effective paving operations.
• Perform pre-shift inspections, clean, and conduct basic maintenance inspections on the screed and paving machine.
• Adjust screed settings and extensions to achieve desired width, depth, slope, and smooth finish, often using stakes and levels.
• Adhere to all safety procedures, wear Personal Prote Equipment (PPE), and ensure a safe work environment, often near traffic or in extreme temperatures.

Requirements

• Ability to run screed on LeeBoy class paver and high deck highway class paver.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience running screed.
• Strong understanding and use of electronics and joint matchers.
• Understand the operations and process of running paver.
• Knowledge of the technologies of the grade and slope controls, vibratory control, extensions, and cut-off shoes.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in various conditions.
• Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment upkeep.
• Good communication and teamwork.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; CDL a plus, especially with tanker endorsement.
